Tips on cheapest parking at IAH for 2.5 weeks

Apologies if there is another thread discussing this; I searched back three years and didn't find one.

We'll need to park for about 2.5 weeks in February.

Given TX's reputation being big and wide-open and the fact that IAH is so freaking far out of town, I was hopeful that IAH would have cheap long-term parking. Looks like I was right. I'm finding as low as $4/day on http://www.airportparkingreservation...rt_parking_iah and http://www.bestparking.com/iah-parking/ and $5.54 (plus tax but not including a 20% discount coupon I found) for the airport authority's own EcoPark lot.

So, while I began composing this thread thinking I'd need to ask for help finding affordable parking, that has now changed into just posting this thread to ask for any tips, such as, "Don't park at the Red Roof Inn because cars are stolen all the time and the shuttle only runs once an hour" or "the Ramada's shuttle runs every 10 minutes, so don't park at the EcoPark lot because theirs only runs every half an hour" or "the EcoPark lot is way safer and closer than the Ramada's" or something like that.

Tips?

FWIW I have had friends and family use the city's EcoPark lots with no problems many times. The uncovered areas are cheapest and there are coupons as it seems you have found. They are somewhat secure from what I can tell from going by. Disclaimer-I have never used them just family and friends.

Thanks, appreciate the tip.

Since it turns out we'll need a hotel stay the night before we fly out, I'm planning to look into stay-and-fly options first, but good to know the EcoPark option seems to be reasonably safe if that turns out to be the best option.

I always stay at the Sheraton when flying out of IAH. They have a free shuttle to the airport and parking there is free.

Park on any street around the airport

Then call the cab pay him 3-4 dollars and he will take you to the airport

When you are back, call the cab, pay him 3-4 dollars and he will take you to your car which is 4-5 miles away.

Cheapest ever.

Did I ever do this?

No, because never had the time to find such a parking place on a street around IAH. I am sure there is one somewhere there...

if you need a hotel the night before, bring a box of chocolates and give it to the front desk girl and ask her if you can park your car in the far corner of their lot. I have done that several times with a limousine that takes up 4-5 spots and it was never an issue.

I parked at the EcoPark lot every week for six months and never had a problem.

careful, COH prohibits parking on a street longer than 24 hrs. i got pinched doing this in my own hood when i left for 2 weeks. however i do not know if area around iah is within COH limits

but i love this advice, maybe talk to the people at some of those ice houses on greens rd for a spot

mind you taxi will be more than $3-4 from there

but yes Sheraton is also very chilled, but there is a security guy at night who logs plates so make sure everyone is on the same page (golds and plats whom ask the manager seems to be enough)
