I called for service on my boiler and the person that booked the appointment didn't ask about the age of the boiler so when the tech arrived he said my boiler was too old and the company doesn't work on boilers older than 30 years. I was charged the $98 for something that could have been told me on the phone and not had the tech come out for something they can't even touch. Of course, they said they can replace it and it would be around $30,000 simply absurd.

We have used Horizon for at least 4 maintenance/repair visit over the last 3-4 years. Both furnace and AC.
This week our VERY old furnace went out (the night before a foot + of snow feel on Denver).
#1: They were at our door within an hour of our call.
We weren't surprise to learn that it was time to say goodbye to our 19 year old furnace.
#2: They had their quote specialist at our door with in 30 minutes of making the decision to replace and she offered space heaters for us for the night.
#3: Furnace replaced the next day with a great crew of guys---not only were they on time but they came 30 minutes EARLY in a foot of snow and helped shovel our sidewalks and driveway before they worked all day at our house. Now we are toasty warm!
I see some on Yelp mention they may cost a bit more--what is your time, peace of mind, EXCELLENT customer service, and warmth worth?
Planning on using them for a BIG AC replacement later this spring.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jonathan M.Redding, CA1825Jan 25, 2021
Yesterday our furnace was blowing cold air. The Horizon tech identified that we needed a high temp switch. He then tried to upswell us with a full system diagnostic. Then they wanted to charge us $125 for a part retrieval fee and an additional $15 fuel charge. The actual replacement part was quoted at $300. The total estimate was $850. He left us without heat after we paid the minimum $98 trip fee...
Today we had a different company come out. He was here 5 minutes, hit two reset switches and the heat was working. So, either the Horizon tech didn't know what he was doing or he intentionally didn't hit the reset so he could upsell us... either way, he left us without heat instead of simply hitting the reset buttons. So, we were in a cold house with a 3-year-old for another night...
We do need the high temp switch, but the tech today told us the part was $80... not $300. The total will be around $200 for everything.
We won't call Horizon again...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah W.Denver, CO3101511Jul 28, 2021
I know when someone is trying to pull one over on me and this could not have been more clear in this situation. The technician tried to fool me with all of this jargon. My unit is less than two years old and he's telling me that I have thousands of dollars in repair work that needs to be done. The majority of it was related to cleaning which is beyond insane to me. Please go to someone more respectable and honest. This company is not them.

They righted their wrong by refunding our money and sending a professional back to our house to give us a more thorough diagnosis and repair schedule--and we hired them for other work!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 16, 2019Previous reviewCalled them to come out and look at the furnace in the basement. Told me that I was going to have to replace it--$4,000.00+. The tech performed some "diagnostics" and showed me some "rust". Got another person to come out to dx the furnace, pulled out a "pin", cleaned it with a $1 and charged me $50 for coming to my house. Said the unit was fine and to just keep cleaning/replacing the filters. Been working for months just fine since then--no problems and no need to replace the unit. Just saved myself $4,000.00. Get 2nd and 3rd opinions, people. Don't call big companies.

I called them to fix my garage door which had fallen off the track. They had to replace a bracket (maybe $50) and did a maintenance. Everything took maybe 1 1/2 hours. $761.00. I did not want to wait so I had them fix it. They did a good job, but I felt it was way over priced. I wish I could have got a second quote as I feel I was being taken advantage of. I emailed customer service with my complaint and did not hear back. They will not be on my list of people I recommend.

We recently had issues with our Air Conditioner, so I started off with calling around to area HVAC companies to have them service the unit. Horizon had their contact info all over our furnace, so figured I would give them a try since they have worked on the home before. The receptionist was very professional, and was able to have someone out within 24-hours, so we were thinking this would be a great experience!
I understand the trip charge is common in the service industry, but I am still struggling to stomach the $98 call fee just to have someone come out and look at your system. The service technician maybe spent 20-minutes looking things over before he provided his feedback. that is when things got out of control... I was quoted three options to repair the unit... 1)
Spend $2,900 to drain and attempt to repair the AC (no guarantees); 2) Pay $1,100 to have a 'liquid patch' applied to the unit, and hope for the best; or 3) spend upwards of $6,000 to have a new system installed.
To say it took my breath away was an understatement... The service technician was very professional and going off of the "rates" that his company (Horizon) provided him with, however it seemed way too expensive for what ended up being a very minor leak. After the sticker shock wore off, we started calling around to some other service providers, and found another HVAC repairman, who was able to come in and repair the AC unit leak, refill our missing Freon, and fix another wiring issue for $395 out the door.
Purpose for this review... make sure you shop around before you agree to just paying Horizon to fix your HVAC system. It is tempting after paying the $98 trip fee, but get a 2nd opinion, it may save you a lot of $$$.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Paula S.Englewood, CO03Nov 8, 2020
Our experience with Horizon began this past summer during a heatwave. Our A/C had stopped working and the company that had installed it would not be able to assist us for several days. Horizon sent a tech over promptly and he assessed the issue, got the necessary parts, and corrected the problem in less time than the other company could even bother to come take a look.
When we needed to replace our furnace and water heater, we chose Horizon. Once again, they more than delivered. We appreciate the high quality of the products and the proficiency of the installation. Everyone we have worked with at Horizon has been a winner.
We highly recommend Horizon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jason S.Littleton, CO10516931Feb 27, 2018
Dealing with a broken boiler/furnace in the dead of winter is stressful enough.
One decent thing with Horizon is their customer service was good and their tech seemed compitent. They got back to me right away and had a tech come out later that day ($98 charge). They fiddled with our boiler for about an hour and diagnosed with what he thought the problem was. He was able to temporarily fix the issue and brought heat back to our home.
We have a Buderus boiler that is about 20 years old. I understand over time these parts and mechanics will go bad. After this latest cold spell was enough to send the part to the shitter. I called Horizon back to let them know that the part has finally failed and see if they can send the same tech out, because we have a complicated system and he is familiar with it.
In short, they wanted to charge me another $98 to re-assess the situation and then to fix it would have been around $1200. Also he was really pushing this $16/mon service plan that brings you magical nothing and future discounts (I'm personally going to start avoid any of these businesses that are doing this scam).
Horizon has good customer service but a terrible business model. I found someone to come out ($70) and fix it for $300 less than them.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Haley S.Castle Rock, CO011Jul 13, 2020
An exceptional customer service experience. Everyone we have had the pleasure of interacting with from Horizon is wonderful. Carolyn (sp?) was very informative and friendly and mindful of our questions and requests. She is easy to reach and quick to respond. Her vehicle was clearly marked and she was on time and well prepared.
We hired Horizon to install central A/C and a whole-home humidifier.
The technicians are probably the friendliest, cleanest, and most courteous that I've ever had in my home. Names labeled on clean and pressed shirts, they've got a great operation. We are seriously considering signing up for their maintenance program.
Edit: after posting my own review I started to read through some other reviews and was confused, and double checked to make sure I had found the right company to review. These negative reviews are 100% opposite from what I experienced with Horizon, and I've noticed most of them have been based on prices or recommendations which all I can say is, you get what you pay for, I guess. My husband and I both know to shop around and do our homework thoroughly. When it comes to my home, I want a well trained technician with safe tools and equipment, and employees with a friendly and courteous attitude. That is what I got with Horizon.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
